Floating Timber Volume Residence
A two-storey private residence where a warm timber volume floats above a board-formed concrete base. Inside, natural materials and an indoor garden bring the landscape into the heart of the home.
This contemporary villa is conceived as two contrasting volumes: a grounded, horizontal base clad in textured board-formed concrete that anchors the house to its plot, and a lighter timber-wrapped upper storey that appears to hover above it, sheltered beneath a slim cantilevered roof. The composition is calm and horizontal, framed by mature olive trees, cypresses and layered Mediterranean planting that soften the strong geometry. To the rear, a generous terrace opens onto a swimming pool and covered lounge, dissolving the boundary between indoor and outdoor living. Inside, the material palette continues with warm oak panelling, travertine, marble and soft neutral tones, while a dramatic sculptural staircase wraps around an internal garden — complete with a real tree and integrated lighting — bringing nature directly into the living space. Bedrooms and living areas are kept serene and tactile, with fluted timber walls, bespoke lighting and full-height glazing that frames the surrounding greenery. The result is a refined family home that balances privacy and openness, mass and lightness, architecture and landscape.
